Career Services’ employer relations team maintains contact with top employers and alumni who bring jobs and internships of interest to Colgate students. Team members have built close relationships with many premier employers in creative industries, including:
- the Glimmerglass Festival, a Cooperstown-based opera company
- The Gotham Film and Media Institute in Brooklyn
- United Talent Agency in Beverly Hills
- the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Cleveland Museum of Art (through the Summer on the Cuyahoga program)
“Colgate alumni are passionate about opening doors for Colgate undergrads,” says Shannon Enders, associate director of employer relations.
Pursue what excites you
Extra effort can help you define your interests and develop into a competitive and well-rounded candidate, according to Jill LaRussa, Career Services’ arts, creativity, and media adviser.
“Refine or add skills by exploring independent projects. Dig into academics, athletics, clubs, or trends occurring within your intended industries,” she says. “Perseverance and endurance are key.”

- hosts frequent, scheduled employer events and skills-based workshops
- collaborates with Colgate’s Digital Learning and Media Center to offer best practices on building a creative, expressive, professional online portfolio
Know that success is within reach
During the Career Discovery Series arts panel, Carter Cooper ’13 recalled a Career Services–organized trip she took with alumni. “It was really important to my understanding of where I might fit in the arts after Colgate.”
After graduation, Cooper landed a position at a corporate art consulting firm in New England. “I was so very fortunate to get connected through Career Services that way,” she says.
