Colgate continues to support faculty involvement in conference participation and/or attendance. Eligible faculty (described below) are given an allotment of up to $2,250 per year to attend or present at professional meetings.

As you finalize your syllabi for the fall of 2025, we write with some information relevant to your teaching this coming term.

Founders’ Day Convocation is one of the most meaningful gatherings of Colgate’s academic year. A symbolically significant ceremony, convocation marks the start of a new academic year by convening many members of our community to reflect on our origins and imagine our future.

As we begin the 2025–26 academic year, I am pleased to announce recently appointed and continuing academic-administrative leadership for the coming year.

Dear Members of the Colgate Community, I share with you the news of the passing of William Edmonston, professor of psychology emeritus. Prof. Edmonston penned this obituary himself and filed it with the Office of the Provost and Dean of the Faculty. We have reached the end of another academic year. It is a time of reflection, as we take stock of the year behind us all, and a time of reorientation, as students leave campus (some for the last time), faculty (in many cases, with their students) turn to research, and staff to assessing the past year and gearing up for the one that lies ahead.

I am very pleased to announce that Professor of Earth and Environmental Geosciences Martin Wong, will be our new associate provost for administration and planning.

I write with the sad news that Deborah Knuth Klenck, Professor of English Emerita, passed away on Thursday, April 10, 2025, at the age of 72.

I am deeply saddened to report that Carolina Castilla, Richard M. Kessler Professor of Economic Studies, passed away on Saturday, April 12, at the age of 47 following a short battle with an aggressive cancer.

With sadness, we share the passing of Charles “Charlie” Naef, Associate Professor of Political Science, who passed away at the age of 94, on Tuesday, February 25, 2025.
